Simona Popovic
Simona Popovic’s artistic practice explores emotional states tied to life’s transitions - moments of becoming, dissolving, or simply existing in between. According to Popovic, her works are shaped by atmosphere and emotion rather than linked to a specific place or physical reality. Her images evoke a quiet introspection, inviting viewers into a visual space where presence and absence coexist. Through the interplay of light, shadow, and texture, she creates compositions that feel both familiar and distant - images that linger rather than resolve.
Working primarily with analogue photography and photogravure, Popovic approaches image-making as a tactile, layered process. Each work is treated as a unique physical surface, manipulated and composed through light, exposure, and materiality. Her use of light and shadow becomes a compositional tool that reinforces the emotional ambiguity present throughout her works, hinting at a subtle tension between what is seen and what is sensed.
Poetry forms an integral part of Popovic's practice, often accompanying her visual works. Like her images, her poems evoke presence and ambiguity, expanding the emotional dimension of each piece through textual language.
